Goodmorning.This公務(wù)員之家版權(quán)所有weekIvisitedthecityofChicago.Inthatgreatcity,andacrossAmerica,ourstrongandgrowingeconomyiscreatingjobsanddeliveringprosperitytomoreofourpeople.

IntheChicagoarea,businesseshaveaddedmorethan74,000newjobsoverthepasttwoyears.AndinIllinois,theunemploymentratehasfallento4.6percent,thelowestratethereinover5-and-a-halfyears.

Wehavegoodnewsaboutournationaleconomy,aswell.OnFriday,welearnedthattheAmericaneconomycreated121,000newjobsinJune,andithascreatedover5.4millionjobssinceAugust2003.Wenowhaveaddedjobsfor34straightmonths,andtheunemploymentrateis4.6percent.

Inthefirstquarterof2006,oureconomygrewatanimpressiveannualrateof5.6percent.Thisfollowsoureconomicgrowthof3.5percentin2005,thefastestrateofanymajorindustrializednation.Andbecausetaxesarelow,ourworkersarekeepingmoreofthemoneytheyearn.

Behindeachofthesepositivestatisticsarecountlessstories--storiesofworkerswhostarteachdaywithhopebecausetheyhaveajobthatwillhelpthembuildabetterlife;storiesoffamilieswithmoremoneyinthebankforcollegetuition,oradownpaymentonahome;storiesofsmallbusinessownerswhoknowtheycanhiremoreworkersandgrowwithconfidence.

OureconomicexpansionisliftingthelivesofmillionsofAmericans,andtokeepthisexpansiongoing,wemustmaintainthepro-growth,low-taxpoliciesthathelpedtolaunchitinthefirstplace.ThetaxreliefwedeliveredhashelpedunleashtheentrepreneurialspiritofAmericaandkeptoureconomytheenvyoftheworld.SoIwillcontinuetoworkwithCongresstomakethattaxreliefpermanent.

OureconomyisalsothrivingbecauseAmericaremainstheworld''''smostinnovativenation.DuringmytriptoIllinois,IvisitedacompanycalledCabotMicroelectronics,whichmakesproductsformanufacturingsemiconductorchipsandotherhigh-techcomponents.Cutting-edgefirmslikeCabotarecreatinggoodjobsforourworkersandhelpingtokeepAmericacompetitiveintheglobaleconomy.

TohelpcompanieslikeCabotmaintainournation''''scompetitiveedge,IproposedmyAmericanCompetitivenessInitiative.Thisinitiativewilldoublefederalfundingforresearchinpromisingareassuchasnanotechnology,supercomputing,andalternativeenergysources.Theinitiativewillalsoencouragebolderprivatesectorinvestmentintechnology,andhelpensurethateveryAmericanchildhasthemathandscienceskillsneededforthejobsoftomorrow.
