In1776,JohnAdamspredictedtohiswife,Abigail,thatAmerica''''sIndependenceDaywouldbecelebratedbysucceedinggenerationsasthegreatanniversaryfestival.Hewrotethat"thisanniversaryshouldbecommemoratedwithpompandparade,withshows,games,sports,bells,bonfires,andilluminationsfromoneendofthiscontinenttotheother,fromthistimeforward,forevermore."

Sincethen,generationsofAmericanshavedonejustthat.EachyearwelookforwardtothefamilygatheringsandthegrandcelebrationsthattakeplaceacrosstheNationonthe4thofJuly.Andamidthemusicandbarbequesandfireworks,wegivethanksforourfreedom,andwehonorthebraveryandsacrificesofallthosewhohavemadethatfreedompossible.

OnIndependenceDay,werecallthecourageandhighidealsofourNation''''sfounders,whowagedadesperatefighttoovercometyrannyandliveinfreedom.Recentyearshavebroughtarenewedinterestinthelivesandachievementsofourfounders,andwehavelearnedonceagainthattheypossessedextraordinarytalents,aswellasordinaryhumanfailings,whichonlymakestheiraccomplishmentsal公務(wù)員之家版權(quán)所有l(wèi)themoreremarkable.

Forthebravemenandwomenofourfoundinggeneration,victorywasfarfromcertain.Theywerecertainonlyofthecausetheyserved--thebeliefthatfreedomisthegiftofGodandtherightofallmankind.ThestrengthoftheirconvictionsmadepossiblethebirthofthefreeNationinwhichweareblessedtolive.

Onthe4thofJulywealsohonorthesacrificesmadebyeachAmericangenerationtosecurethepromisesoftheDeclarationofIndependence.Formorethantwocenturies,fromthecampsofValleyForge,tothemountainsofAfghanistan,Americanshaveservedandsacrificedfortheprinciplesofourfounding.

Today,anewgenerationofAmericanpatriotsisdefendingourfreedomagainstdeterminedandruthlessenemies.Atthishour,themenandwomenofourArmedForcesarefacingdangerindistantplaces,carryingouttheirmissionswithalltheskillandhonorweexpectofthem.Andtheirfamiliesareenduringlongseparationsfromtheirlovedoneswithgreatcourageanddignity.Ourtroopsandourmilitaryfamiliesdeservealloursupportandgratitude,andonthis4thofJulyweekend,IaskeveryAmericantofindawaytothankthosewhodefendourfreedom.Tofindoutabouteffortsinyourcommunity,pleasevisitthewebsiteAmericaSupportsYou.mil.
