英文簡歷的格式結(jié)構(gòu)

英文簡歷的格式結(jié)構(gòu)包括頁眉部分、教育背景、工作經(jīng)歷和個人資料四部分。

如果已經(jīng)有全職工作了,一定把工作經(jīng)歷放在第二;如果您目前還是在校學(xué)生,應(yīng)該把教育背景放在第二。舉個例子,一個美國商學(xué)院的學(xué)生,在一個很大的公司里工作了三年,不斷得到提升,從未換過工作。由于新?lián)Q了老板,他想換個工作,獵頭讓他把簡歷傳過去,傳過去后幾天遲遲沒有消息,他問為什么,獵頭左找右找,終于在學(xué)生類的簡歷里找到了他的簡歷。原來,他用的是學(xué)生簡歷的格式,被當(dāng)作了在校生。所以,作為在職人員,若把教育背景放在前面,人家會對你很不重視。

頁眉部分

1.名字。有7種寫法,我們認(rèn)為都有可接受的原因,或適合用的地方,比如說第四種--YangLi(李陽),很方便招聘人員,尤其是人事部經(jīng)理為中國人,聲調(diào)弄錯了或者名和姓搞不清楚,會很尷尬;但標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的、外資公司流行的、大家約定俗成的簡歷中的名字寫法,則是第二種,YANGLI。

我們在審閱了大量的中國人的簡歷之后,發(fā)現(xiàn)一個非常值得糾正的地方,就是有人用粵語拼寫自己的姓氏。比如,王寫成Wong,李寫成Lee。這里要告訴大家兩點(diǎn):一個是這只是香港人的拼法,并不是國際的拼法;第二是將來您辦護(hù)照準(zhǔn)備出國時,公安局是不會批準(zhǔn)您用粵語拼音的。但是,我們也見到一些出過國的中國人,由于種種原因,他們的姓和漢語拼音并不一樣,那是各有各的原因,我們建議不用漢語拼音以外的寫法。

另外,也發(fā)現(xiàn)有少量一部分人用外國人的姓,如MarySmith,也是非常不可取的。因?yàn)槿绻阌猛鈬说男?,別人會認(rèn)為你是外國人,或者你父親是外國人,或者你嫁給了外國人。名字用英文是很常見的,也是很方便的,尤其是名字拼音的第一個字母是q、x或z,老外們很難發(fā)出正確讀音的字母。有個叫王強(qiáng)的先生,名片上印著JohnWang,這樣,中外人士叫起來都很方便。

名和姓之間,如果有英文名,中文名可以加,也可以不加,或者用拼音的第一個字母簡稱。

雙字名,也有四種寫法,我們建議用第三種,Xiaofeng,最簡單方便。大家一看就知是名而不是姓,要不然,大家有可能會誤認(rèn)為你是姓肖的。

2.地址。

北京以后要寫中國。很多人說:“誰不知道北京呀!”但一個完整的地址、全球暢通的郵址應(yīng)該是加國名的,但不必用PRC等,因?yàn)橛肅hina簡單清楚。郵編的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)寫法是放在省市名與國名之間,起碼放在China之前,因?yàn)槭侵袊硟?nèi)的郵編。

3.電話。

寫法很有講究,中國人名片中的電話經(jīng)常寫得不清楚、不專業(yè),有幾點(diǎn)提醒大家注意。

1)前面一定加地區(qū)號,如(86-10)。因?yàn)槟窃谙蛲鈬厩舐?,您的簡歷很可能被傳真到倫敦、紐約,大家不知道您的地區(qū)號,也沒有時間去查,如果另一位求職者的電話有地區(qū)號,招聘者很可能先和這個人溝通。另外,國外很流行“userfriendly”,即想盡辦法給對方創(chuàng)造便利,尤其是在找工作時,更要加深這一意識。用中國人的思維邏輯來解釋,"是你求他,而不是他求你"。

2)8個號碼之間加一個“-”,如6505-2266。這樣,認(rèn)讀撥打起來比較容易,否則,第一次打可能會看錯位。

3)區(qū)號后的括號和號碼間加空格,如(86-10)6505-2266。這是英文寫作格式的規(guī)定,很多人忽略了,甚至不知道。

4)機(jī)或者向別人通報手機(jī)時,也有一定的規(guī)范,要用“3-3-4原則”,如“138-135-1234”。也有人5個5個的念,會造成兩個結(jié)果:一是字?jǐn)?shù)越多越不容易記全,甚至出錯,降低效率,有的人還念得特快;二是有人總結(jié)說,這是臺灣人的念法,帶有很濃的地方色彩。我們追求的是國際規(guī)范。

5)傳真號千萬不要留辦公室的,免得辦公室的同事都知道你想跳槽。如果家里有傳真號,最好告訴對方,萬一他找不到你,可以發(fā)幾個字,比較快;將來對方發(fā)聘書或材料時,比較方便。不要等到將來再給,我們應(yīng)該從現(xiàn)在起就培養(yǎng)“userfriendly”的意識,處處方便對方。

6)國外很流行留言電話,有人為找工作,專門去買留言電話。這里順帶講一下留言文化,中國人甚至包括很多亞洲人,都不習(xí)慣使用留言電話,但隨著國際間商業(yè)文化交往的增多,愿意在電話中留言的人越來越多了,留言技巧也越來越高了。

7)家中老人試寫留言條。經(jīng)常會出現(xiàn)這么一種情況:您出門了,朋友打來電話,回來時,媽媽告訴你:“今天有人來電話找你?!蹦銜枺骸罢l來的?”一般她只會告訴你:“是個男的”或“是個女的”,當(dāng)你問到:“您怎么不問一問他的電話呀?”,媽媽往往會回答:“我還沒問呢,他就掛了。”這里我們要說兩點(diǎn):一是要跟家長交流一下寫留言條的方式,就是怎么接聽電話及寫留言條;第二,這里有一個中國的傳統(tǒng)觀念。以前,只有辦公室才有電話,打電話來的人一般都是找你辦事的,接聽電話的人總覺得高高在上,并且形成了習(xí)慣。這種習(xí)慣帶到家里,甚至在年輕一代中也很流行。很多人接聽電話時,若沒能及時識別出對方身份,起初語氣往往非常冷漠。在這里,我們向全社會建議:任何給您打電話的人,都有可能是您的朋友、同事或者合作伙伴,即便目前不是,將來大部分都有可能成為他們中的一員,所以,務(wù)必?zé)崆閷Υ恳粋€電話。另外,換個角度想:如果您打電話給別人,別人是這樣的態(tài)度,您又會作何感想呢?我們要在全社會提倡一種禮貌熱情的電話語言,在我們以后的專題講座中會提到。

教育背景

1.時間要倒序。

最近的學(xué)歷情況要放在最前面。

2.學(xué)校名要大寫并加粗。

這樣便于招聘者迅速識別您的學(xué)歷,這里又用到了"YRIS"原則。

3.地名右對齊,全部大寫并加粗。

地名后一定寫中國。例如,海口(Haikou)的拼寫與日本北海道(Hokaido)的拼寫很相近。讀簡歷的有可能是外國人,不知道的會搞不清楚是哪個國家??赡苣愠鲞^國,這是件好事,但如果去的地方并不太出名,沒加國名,大家也意識不到??傊窃斐闪艘恍┎环奖悖什桓?。我們應(yīng)該一切從最完善的角度出發(fā)。

4.學(xué)歷。

如果正在學(xué)習(xí),用Candidatefor開頭比較嚴(yán)謹(jǐn);如果已經(jīng)畢業(yè),可以把學(xué)歷名稱放在最前,具體見樣本。

5.社會工作擔(dān)任班干部,只寫職務(wù)就可以了;參加過社團(tuán)協(xié)會,寫明職務(wù)和社團(tuán)名,如果什么職務(wù)都沒有,寫“memberofclub(s)”。社團(tuán)協(xié)會,國外一般都用club。不必寫年月和工作詳情,有些可留待工作經(jīng)歷中寫。

順便講一下幾個職稱的譯法:

1)班長。國內(nèi)很流行用Monitor,但國外常見的是ClassPresident,這樣顯得更國際化;另外,用YRIS原理,顯得官更大一點(diǎn)兒。

2)團(tuán)支部書記。用Secretary也可以,但在與外國人打交道時,如果參加的是純商業(yè)機(jī)構(gòu),背景中政治色彩越少越好。經(jīng)常一個班就是一個支部,我們可以用class表示支部,那么class用Secretary不合適,不妨用President。在某種意義上,班長和團(tuán)支部書記二者的角色是相同的。但如果二者是并駕齊驅(qū)的,不妨用Co-president。再有,如果你寫了President,當(dāng)有人問班長時,他可能會不高興,為處理好關(guān)系,你不妨謙虛一下,用VicePresident。這樣,發(fā)生副作用的可能性就會很小。

3)副會長。用VicePresident是最合適的,在國外也很常見。

6.獎學(xué)金。

一般用一句話概括。如果有多個,也爭取用一句話概括。但如果是學(xué)生簡歷,則有其它的處理方式,我們將在下次講解。

7.成績。

如果不是前五名,建議不寫。因?yàn)槿绻旁谖迕?,感覺您不是一個優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生。一旦寫上,有些人會窮追不舍地猛問,讓你尷尬。

工作經(jīng)歷

首先要再次強(qiáng)調(diào)一下,對于正在工作的人,Experience應(yīng)寫在Education的前面,而對于在校生Education則應(yīng)放在Experience之前。

寫時間時應(yīng)注意:a)目前的工作要最先寫,左側(cè)寫時間,如寫成1997-present。詳細(xì)寫法請點(diǎn)擊左側(cè)英文簡歷樣本。此外更要注意拼寫,不要把present寫成president,否則您現(xiàn)在就成了總裁,老板怎么還敢雇傭您呢?這種往往是拼寫檢查無法查出的"漏網(wǎng)之魚",所以要特別小心。這個問題我們在后面還會談到。

b)以前的工作,只寫年份,如1993-1995。這樣的寫法主要適于以下三種情況:一是工作時間較早;二是工作時間在兩年以上;三是旨在巧妙地拉長工作時間。例如,如果您曾于1997年12月到1998年1月就職于某家公司,雖然只有短短兩個月,但寫成1997-1998就顯得工作時間較長,同時也沒撒謊。

c)以前的工作,加上月份,如May,1998或May1998。這樣的寫法自然會顯得精確一些,也投合銀行業(yè)雇主的口味。有的中國人則喜歡用5,1998或1998,5。前一種寫法很少見,只有在實(shí)在寫不下的情況下才使用。1998,5則是純粹的Chinglish(洋涇幫英語),是完全不能接受的。

d)SummerIntern(夏期工作)的幾種寫法。

SummerInternSummerAnalystSummerAssistantSummerAssociate一是直接寫SummerIntern,不管職務(wù)職稱;二是寫成SummerAnalyst,這種寫法比較適合大學(xué)本科或研究生期間的暑期工作;三是寫SummerAssistant,這種寫法適合多種情況;四是寫SummerAssociate,這一寫法專指MBA學(xué)生的暑期工作。而且一般認(rèn)為SummerAssociate的級別會比SummerAnalyst要高一些。我們將在以后的專題講座中為大家介紹美國投資銀行家的職業(yè)生涯發(fā)展的階梯模式,到時候會涉及到不同職務(wù)和職稱的寫法。

寫工作經(jīng)歷時要用倒序,工作內(nèi)容則一定要用點(diǎn)句。

個人資料

1.名稱。

有四種寫法:Personal,PersonalInformation,OtherInformation,AdditionalInformation。無論是教育背景、工作經(jīng)歷,還是個人資料,既可以首字母大寫,也可以全部字母大寫,還可以全部字母小寫。哈佛商學(xué)院的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)格式卻是全部字母小寫,這在主流商業(yè)社會中已沿用多年。另外,名稱可以寫在最左側(cè),也可居中。

2.語言。

有幾個層次。Nativespeakerof指母語;從嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)?shù)慕嵌戎v,F(xiàn)luentin顯得更流利;Englishasworkinglanguage顯得不非常流利,但可靠性更強(qiáng);Someknowledgeof會一些,沒有把握的千萬別寫。在面試中,語言是最輕松的,一旦被考倒,他會認(rèn)為你在撒謊,甚至認(rèn)為通篇簡歷都有很多撒謊的地方。

3.電腦。

中國人最愛用“熟悉”(familiar),無論中文還是英文簡歷?!笆煜ぁ笔且粋€很弱的字眼,說明你不熟練,不常用。如果幾個軟件,有的熟練,有的熟悉,建議只寫軟件名。完全沒把握的,一點(diǎn)兒不熟悉的,千萬不要寫。不要以為沒有電腦,就不會考你,他也會考你一兩個關(guān)鍵用法。如果真的用的很多,不妨用“Frequentuserof”。

4.資格證書。

最需要注意的是,有些人將注冊會計(jì)師籠統(tǒng)地翻譯成CPA,但全世界各國都有自己的CPA,有些是互不承認(rèn)的,所以一定要寫上國別,寫明考取年份。

有一些業(yè)余愛好,能顯示出一定素養(yǎng)的內(nèi)容,也可以寫上,如鋼琴考級。

5.愛好與特長。

1)寫強(qiáng)項(xiàng)。弱的一定不要寫,面試人員不定對哪個項(xiàng)目感興趣,有時會跟你聊兩句,尤其是接連幾個、十幾個面試之后,有些招聘人員愛聊一些輕松的話題,一旦是你的弱項(xiàng),絕大部分人會很尷尬的,顯出窘態(tài),喪失自信,這對你是很不利的。更重要的是,他會覺得你在撒謊。

2)要寫也只寫兩到三項(xiàng)。因?yàn)闃O少有人在很多方面都很強(qiáng)。如果您覺得自己玩得都可以的話,您的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)可能稍低了點(diǎn)兒。當(dāng)然,確實(shí)有的人七八樣都玩得挺好的,但一般人不相信每個人的強(qiáng)項(xiàng)有特別多,所以您也沒必要寫那么多,以免給人輕浮的感覺。

3)不具體的愛好不寫,如sports、music、reading。大家不知道你喜好什么,或者讓大家覺得你根本就沒有真正的愛好,更糟糕的是,人們會認(rèn)為你的寫作水平很差。

4)舉幾個用詞。如travel,如果你喜歡旅行,而有些工作需要經(jīng)常出差,那么你寫上travel是非常有利的;有些女性寫上cooking,是很實(shí)事求是的,也給人以踏實(shí)的感覺,對于象秘書這樣的職位,總是有好處的。

簡歷英文 是比較特殊的。因?yàn)閷W(xué)生的工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)很少,寫不出東西來,顯得頁面不夠豐滿。要按我們在前面講的格式,也很尷尬。因此我們在這里特別介紹一些彌補(bǔ)的技巧:

1.教育背景中寫相關(guān)課程。但千萬不要為了拼湊篇幅,把所有的課程一股腦兒地都寫上,如體育等。這樣不很有效,別人也沒耐心看。

2.獎學(xué)金一項(xiàng)一行。許多學(xué)生每年都有獎學(xué)金,這樣一來,也可寫出三四行,甚至更多。

3.拉長句子。每個句子都可加入一些詞拉長一些。其實(shí)拉長并不難,難的是縮短。

4.自然地多換行,多寫點(diǎn)句。

5.加大字號??蓪?0號,小五改成12號,小四。

6.社會工作細(xì)節(jié)放在工作經(jīng)歷中。這樣會填補(bǔ)工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)少的缺陷,例如,您在做團(tuán)支書、學(xué)生會主席等社會工作時組織過什么,聯(lián)系過什么,參與過什么都可以一一羅列。如果只做過一件事,那就應(yīng)該盡量把它掰開了寫,如領(lǐng)導(dǎo)過多少人,完成了什么事,起到了什么作用。這樣一來,起碼就有了三行。如果做了更多的事,一件一行就可以了。行文簡潔的原則還是要遵守的。

7.暑期工作。作為大學(xué)生,雇主通常并不指望您在暑期工作期間會有什么驚天動地的成就。當(dāng)然如果您有就更好了。不過即使實(shí)在沒有,就算是在父母的單位呆過幾天,也不妨寫上。這樣也算是顯得接觸過社會,了解了些行業(yè),做過了些工作。但您一定要能說上幾句才寫在簡歷上。否則將來面試時,您恐怕會被問得張口結(jié)舌,顯得很尷尬。

8.中學(xué)情況。不過這方面的內(nèi)容不要寫太多。有的人中學(xué)經(jīng)歷特輝煌,做過學(xué)生會主席、當(dāng)過團(tuán)支部書記,學(xué)習(xí)成績也名列前茅。其實(shí)中學(xué)成績?nèi)绾稳绾魏檬亲顩]有參照性的,除非是北京四中這樣的全國知名學(xué)校,否則作用不大,因?yàn)樽钪匾倪€是您當(dāng)前的情況。當(dāng)然,如果您在中學(xué)時得過國際奧林匹克比賽大獎或全國性的大獎,不妨提上一筆。

另外,寫英文簡歷還需要特別注意以下幾點(diǎn)

1.絕無拼寫錯誤?,F(xiàn)在文字處理軟件都有拼寫檢查(Spelling Check),您實(shí)在沒有理由拼錯,否則雇主會覺得您連最基本的東西都不去做。因此這是完全不能容許的錯誤。

2.小心相近字。這是拼寫檢查查不出的錯誤,要尤為小心。例如,有一位專業(yè)是經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)的同志,他本應(yīng)寫Major: Economics(專業(yè):經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)),但卻誤寫成了Mayor: Economy,搖身一變,成了主管經(jīng)濟(jì)的市長。

3.避免明顯的語法錯誤。這并不是說一點(diǎn)兒語法錯誤都沒有,因?yàn)橛⒄Z畢竟不是咱們的母語,稍微有一點(diǎn)小錯,別人也是能夠諒解的。

4.請友人幫忙看一下,這是非常有效的一個方法。一是從拼寫、語法、句式等方面來看,有無錯誤;二是從構(gòu)思的角度上來看,有沒有更合適、更恰當(dāng)?shù)谋磉_(dá)。旁觀者清,換一個角度,別人經(jīng)常能提出一些特別好的建議來。

5. Objective寫不寫?有人寫,有人不寫。其實(shí)寫和不寫各有利弊。如果寫上,當(dāng)然顯得目標(biāo)明確,非這個行業(yè)、這個部門不可,但同時也就限制了您在別的行業(yè)發(fā)展的可能性。比如,畢業(yè)生在申請象時明確寫上了所選部門,那么萬一這個部門沒有錄用您,而您又好象非這個部門不可,您就很可能失去了在其他部門工作的機(jī)會。但如果您什么都不寫,雇主參照您的背景和一些測試的結(jié)果也許認(rèn)為您更適合別的部門,這樣您就可能獲得新的機(jī)會。通常美式簡歷的規(guī)范寫法都是不寫Objective的。

一、 千萬別羅羅嗦嗦

二、 千萬別搞錯順序

三、 切記把“技能”寫清楚

在basic resume中,一般包括下列元素:

a. personal date(個人資料):name(姓名)、address(通訊地址)、postal code(郵政編碼)、phone number(電話號碼)、birthdate(出生日期)、birthplace(出生地點(diǎn))、sex(性別)、height(身高)、weight(體重)、health(健康狀況)、date of availability(可到職日期)、number of identification card(身份證號碼)。因?yàn)槭菓?yīng)屆畢業(yè)生或中學(xué)畢業(yè)不久,一般沒有結(jié)婚,因而可省略marital status(婚姻狀況)和children(兒女情況)兩項(xiàng)。當(dāng)然,如果是研究生畢業(yè)已婚,則應(yīng)寫明。

毫無疑問,這種形式的英語簡歷適合于有工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)的求職人員。

在chronological resume中,通常包括以下元素:

很多人使用從國外網(wǎng)站上下載的英文簡歷,以此為參考模板,撰寫自己的英文簡歷,用于應(yīng)聘在國內(nèi)的外資企業(yè)。由于這一類客戶較多,問題相對比較集中,所以我們專門對此問題做個解答。

國外英文簡歷與國內(nèi)英文簡歷相比,由于簡歷撰寫人和閱讀人的背景不相同,所以國外英文簡歷有很多地方需要根據(jù)國情做適應(yīng)性改進(jìn)。

首先是國外簡歷一般都盡量不寫性別、年齡和種族等涉嫌個人隱私的信息,因?yàn)閺姆蓚蚬そ嵌?,這些信息是涉嫌用工歧視的,招聘單位一旦被訴在招聘中涉及性別歧視、年齡歧視或種族歧視等有違法律條款的行為,是要付出巨額賠償?shù)模驗(yàn)橥鈬苏J(rèn)為一個應(yīng)聘人是否符合某個招聘崗位的要求,是取決于應(yīng)聘人的職業(yè)背景和職業(yè)技能水準(zhǔn),而不是上述信息。但是對在國內(nèi)的外企,你還是把上述信息、包括你的戶口所在地,都老老實(shí)實(shí)地加在英文簡歷上吧。咱們不認(rèn)為這是歧視。

其次是國外的英文簡歷一般只寫職責(zé),不寫業(yè)績,這一點(diǎn)與國內(nèi)的英文簡歷有本質(zhì)的區(qū)別。如果在英文簡歷上只寫職責(zé),就會出現(xiàn)千人一面的現(xiàn)象,比如大家都是公司中做會計(jì)的,各公司的會計(jì)職責(zé)就會基本一樣,但每一個做會計(jì)的都會有不同的業(yè)績,這才是簡歷中的重點(diǎn),也是面試時談話的話題,所以在國內(nèi)的英文簡歷上一定要加上你的業(yè)績。

第三點(diǎn)是國外的英文簡歷(以下內(nèi)容略去xx字,談的是國外的英文簡歷中應(yīng)該去掉的內(nèi)容。寫出來對國內(nèi)的簡歷服務(wù)機(jī)構(gòu)的沖擊太大了,大家都不容易。)

做英文簡歷可不能按照中文簡歷的要求來寫,因?yàn)橹形暮啔v和英文簡歷無論在基本要求還是企業(yè)要求等方面都是不一樣的。也就是說簡歷的內(nèi)容以及招聘者的審核標(biāo)準(zhǔn)都是不一樣的,為此做英文簡歷必須重視以下十個問題才行。

不要使用任何簡歷模板,因?yàn)楦鶕?jù)相關(guān)調(diào)查得出的結(jié)論是使用簡歷模板獲得的機(jī)會會大大降低的,因?yàn)橥馄蟊容^看重個人創(chuàng)造力而厭惡那種復(fù)制的風(fēng)氣。
